FAQs
Tile Samples
How big are the samples?
Most are about 6” × 6”, though some unique shapes or mosaics may vary slightly. We cut each one from full-size tile, so you’re seeing the real deal — color, finish, and texture.
How long does it take to get my samples?
Samples usually ship within 1–3 business days and arrive via UPS or USPS. We’ll send tracking as soon as they’re on their way.
Why do you charge for samples?
Ah, the golden question!
As a small, family-run business, our goal is to keep our tiles high-quality, yet affordable. Charging a small amount for samples helps us cover material and shipping costs — so we don’t have to raise prices on the actual tiles.
Think of it as our way of keeping designer tile accessible without cutting corners on quality.
Can I order full-size pieces instead of small cuts?
Sometimes! Certain tiles can be sent as full pieces depending on the size and stock.
Email hello@brickcitytile.com and we’ll let you know what’s possible — we’re happy to help if we can.
Do you refund sample costs if I place a full order?
Sometimes, yes! While it’s not automatic, reach out to us at hello@brickcitytile.com with your new order number — we love rewarding sample shoppers who come back for the real thing.
Ordering & Product Info
Can I order by phone or email?
We sure can help you that way! While most orders are placed directly through our website, our team’s always happy to lend a hand.
Just email hello@brickcitytile.com or call us — we can walk you through your order, double-check quantities, or answer any questions before you click Add to Cart.
How do I calculate how much tile I need?
A quick math moment! Measure the length and width of your space, multiply them to get square footage, then add 10–15% extra for cuts and waste (especially if your layout has a pattern).
Need help double-checking your numbers? Shoot us your dimensions — we’ll help make sure you’re covered.
What’s a dye lot or caliber?
Great question — every tile batch is a little unique!
- Dye lot = color variation between production runs
- Caliber = slight differences in size
When you order, we always ship from the same lot to keep your tile looking consistent across your space.
What’s rectified tile?
Rectified tiles are precision-cut after firing so their edges are perfectly square. That means smaller grout lines and a sleek, modern look — designers love it.
Can I use wall tile on the floor?
Usually, no. Wall tiles aren’t made to handle foot traffic — they’re often lighter and less durable.
But! You can use floor tile on the wall for a dramatic, seamless look.
Do you sell matching trim pieces and mosaics?
When available, yes! Many of our collections include coordinating trims and mosaics.
You’ll find them listed under the same product collection on our site — or email hello@brickcitytile.com and we’ll help you find the perfect match.
What’s the difference between ceramic and porcelain tile?
Both are great — it’s just about where you plan to use them.
- Porcelain is denser, more water-resistant, and great for floors, showers, or outdoor spaces.
- Ceramic is perfect for walls or backsplashes where durability isn’t as crucial, but design is everything.
Do your tiles vary from what’s shown online?
A little! Tiles can have subtle color and pattern variation, especially natural-look collections. We photograph everything carefully — but screens, lighting, and dye lots can cause minor differences.
That’s why samples are so important!
Shipping
Where do you ship?
Pretty much everywhere in the U.S.! From sunny California to cozy New England — if there’s a curb, we can probably get tile to it.
How do deliveries work?
Most of our orders ship on big trucks (called LTL freight) with curbside delivery. That means the driver lowers your pallet to the ground with a liftgate — but doesn’t carry it inside.
Think of it as a friendly handoff from truck to driveway.
Do I need to be home?
Yep! Someone 18+ needs to be there to sign and inspect the shipment. It’s a quick process — we promise.
Can I change my delivery address after it ships?
Once your order is rolling, changing the address can get pricey — carriers charge extra for rerouting.
If you catch it early, reach out to us and we’ll see what’s possible.
Will my order ship all at once?
We do our best to ship everything together. Occasionally, if something’s backordered or split between warehouses, it might arrive in separate shipments.
We’ll always give you a heads-up.
Cancellations & Oops-Moments
What if I need to cancel or the truck can’t deliver?
If your order’s already left our warehouse, cancellation fees apply — that includes round-trip freight (not the promo rate) and a 15% restocking fee. So, if you’re on the fence, give us a shout before we load that pallet!
Damaged or Missing Tile
Uh oh — my boxes look rough. What now?
Take a breath (and a few photos). Before signing, note any visible damage on the driver’s receipt — that’s super important for claims.
If you discover an issue after delivery, contact the trucking terminal right away and email hello@brickcitytile.com within 2 days.
Please include:
- Your order number
- How many tiles are damaged
- Photos (close-ups + box labels help a ton)
Keep the damaged pieces — the carrier may need to inspect them. We’ll take care of replacements once approved.
Pro tip: Reporting within 48 hours keeps the claim process smooth and stress-free.
Returns
Can I return tile if I ordered too much (or changed my mind)?
Sure thing — life happens! We accept returns of 2 or more unopened boxes within 60 days of purchase.
Here’s the fine print (but not too fine):
- There’s a 15% restocking fee
- You cover return shipping
- Trim, samples, clearance, and final sale items can’t be returned
- Everything must come back in its original packaging, unbroken and beautiful
How do I start a return?
Easy — email help@brickcitytile.com with your order number, how many boxes you’d like to return, and a quick note about why.
We’ll send you an RMA form within two business days. Once your tile gets back to us, refunds are processed within 7 business days (minus the restocking fee).
Any packing tips?
Absolutely — tile’s delicate, so wrap it snug and consider insurance and tracking.
We can’t issue credit for boxes that arrive cracked or incomplete.

Our team can help with logistics, lead times, and technical data to keep your project on track.
Installation & Care
Do you offer installation services?
Nope — we stick to what we do best: sourcing great tile.
That said, we do recommend working with a professional tile installer (especially for large-format or specialty layouts). A good installer can make all the difference in the final look.
What type of thinset or grout should I use?
That depends on the tile and where it’s being installed. We always recommend using premium setting materials from trusted brands like Laticrete, Mapei, or Schluter.
If you’re unsure, your installer or local tile supply store can match the right products to your project.
Are your tiles suitable for shower floors or outdoor areas?
Many are — but not all!
Check each product’s DCOF rating (slip resistance) and intended use under the Specifications tab on our website.
Porcelain tiles usually work great for wet areas; glossy wall tiles, not so much.
How do I clean and maintain my tile?
Tile’s pretty low-maintenance — that’s one of the perks!
- Sweep or vacuum regularly to keep grit from scratching the surface
- Mop with a neutral pH cleaner (avoid vinegar or bleach)
- Wipe spills quickly to prevent grout discoloration
Do I need to seal my tile?
Generally, no — porcelain and glazed ceramic tiles don’t need sealing.
If your project includes natural stone or unglazed tile, use a penetrating sealer to protect against stains and moisture.
What’s the best grout color to choose?
Totally personal! Lighter grout creates a seamless, airy look, while darker grout defines each tile and hides more wear.
If you’re torn between two, test both on a small section — it’s wild how much grout color can change the vibe.
General Questions
Do you keep everything in stock?
Most of what you see online is in stock and ready to ship, but some items — especially imported or specialty tiles — may have short lead times.
If your project’s on a tight schedule, email hello@brickcitytile.com and we’ll double-check availability before you order.
Can you help me find a specific tile I saw elsewhere?
We’ll try our best! If you have a photo, brand name, or style reference, send it over — we’re tile nerds and love a good product hunt.
Email hello@brickcitytile.com with as much detail as you can, and we’ll see if we can match it or suggest something similar.
Do you sell to the public or just the trade?
Both! Homeowners, designers, and contractors all shop with us.
We pride ourselves on being the bridge between designer-quality tile and real-world budgets — no gatekeeping here.
Can I visit your warehouse or showroom?
Yes! We’d love to see you. Our showroom is located in Newark, NJ, and open to the public.
It’s always a good idea to call ahead so we can have someone ready to help (and maybe hand you a coffee).
Do you offer bulk discounts?
For large residential or commercial orders, absolutely.
Email hello@brickcitytile.com with your project details and quantities — we’ll review and send a custom quote.
Do you sell outside the U.S.?
Right now, we ship within the U.S. only — but we’re working on expanding our reach.
If you have a project outside the country, still reach out — we might be able to help through a freight forwarder.
