Tile or LVT? The Battle of the Flooring Materials

Posted by That Tile Lady on Oct 6th 2022

If you're in the market for new flooring, you might be wondering whether to choose tile or LVT. Both materials have their pros and cons, but which one is right for your home? In this blog post, we'll pit tile against LVT in a battle to see which material comes out on top. Read on to find out more!

Round 1: Durability When it comes to durability, tile is the clear winner. LVT is made of thin layers of plastic that can be easily scratched or dented, whereas tile is much more resistant to damage. If you have kids or pets running around your home, tile is definitely the better option.

Round 2: Installation This round goes to LVT. Tile can be a tricky material to install, and it's often best left to the professionals. LVT, on the other hand, is a much simpler DIY project. If you're on a tight budget or you like the idea of doing the work yourself, LVT is the way to go.

Round 3: Maintenance When it comes to maintenance, both materials are low-maintenance options. However, tile does require grouted joints, whereas LVT doesn't need any special care beyond occasional sweeping and mopping. For that reason, we're giving this round to LVT.

Round 4: If eco-friendly options are important to you, then porcelain tile is the way to go. Porcelain tile is made from natural materials like clay and sand, which means it's recyclable and has very little impact on the environment. Vinyl floors, on the other hand, are made from petroleum products, which are not only bad for the environment but can also off-gas toxic chemicals into your home. If you want a green flooring option, porcelain tile is the way to go.

Round 5: When it comes to price, LVT generally costs less than tile. That's because vinyl floors are mass-produced using cheaper materials than tile. However, there are some premium vinyl floors that can cost just as much as high-end tile floors. And while tile may cost more upfront, it will last longer than LVT, so you may actually save money in the long run by choosing tile over vinyl.

So there you have it—tile vs LVT in a battle to see which flooring material comes out on top. Both materials have their pros and cons, but ultimately it depends on your specific needs and preferences as to which one is right for you. We may be biased, BUT, for longevity and a more eco-friendly choice, the clear winner is Porcelain Tile!
